L’ORÉAL RANKED FIRST IN REPUTATION SURVEY
L’Oréal ranks first in the 2005 survey of the reputation of France’s CAC 40 companies. The study was conducted by the Observatoire de la Réputation and the European strategic intelligence leader, Datops.
The survey, which polls 300 French executives, senior executives and directors, ranks L’Oréal first in terms of reputation among France’s CAC 40 companies (the companies that comprise France’s major stock index and those with the largest market capitalizations on the Paris Stock Exchange). L’Oréal placed ahead of such well-known and highly ranked firms as Peugeot, Renault, Michelin, Danone, LVMH, EADS and Air Liquide. Lindsay Owen-Jones, Chairman and CEO of L’Oréal, is also perceived as the company leader with the best reputation.
Created in 1994 by the Observatoire de la Réputation, the rating of CAC 40 companies is performed by Datops, the European strategic intelligence leader. L’Oréal is the only company to receive an RRRRRR rating. Ten companies were rated RRRR.
According to the survey, “L’Oréal’s outstanding reputation is largely due to its attractiveness as a company and its good financial health.” L’Oréal was the company most often mentioned under the headings “good financial health,” “quality of products,” “desirable products,” “attractiveness,” “desirable place to work,” and “desirable company to invest in.”
L’Oréal was also recently named France’s top company by the Reputation Quotient survey, a French public opinion poll conducted by I&E in cooperation with The Wall Street Journal Europe and La Tribune, a financial daily based in Paris.
According to Jean-Pierre Piotet, President of the Observatoire de la Réputation, “The age of the company has a tremendous influence on reputation.” Most of the companies rated RRRR or above have been in existence for more than one hundred years. Soon to be the case for L’Oréal—the company will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2007.
