Internal social audit program
Internal social audit programme 2006

In 2006, our own factories and warehouses were subjected to independent social audits. This was in addition to the wider programme of social audits for our suppliers and subcontractors. To maintain equity, our sites’ audits were carried out by the same external auditors and according to exactly the same criteria as those we impose on our suppliers and subcontractors.

On the 31st December 2006, 101 sites in 40 countries had been audited. The audits confirmed important points such as the total absence of employees aged under 16. However, areas for improvement were identified like, for example, certain minor hygiene and safety problems and the necessity of implementing better monitoring of working hours. These points were incorporated in corrective action plans which will be followed up internally and audited complementarily by our external auditor.

In the USA, L’Oréal purchases a variety of products and services through different departments. For each of them the goal is the same: obtain products and services of the highest quality, at the best cost, in an opportune manner and with the best service. The objective is thus to invest resources in the best possible fashion. It is fundamental to seek diversity amongst partners. To help with this there is a programme relating to supplier diversity (piloted by a “Supplier Diversity Council”) which features companies that are very different from one another, showing that all companies can do business with L’Oréal. This completes and improves the existing base of our small suppliers or those that owned by women and minority groups. As a result, we can ensure that our suppliers reflect the wide diversity of the market that we serve.

Moreover, L'Oréal USA is a member of several bodies dedicated to developing supplier diversity: National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the New York-New Jersey Minority Purchasing Council and the Asian Enterprise.
