Make science more accessible to women
L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science
GOAL
Back
The Award “For Women in Science”, created by L’Oréal and UNESCO in 1998, was the first international distinction dedicated to women in science.
For Women in Science is now one of the most prestigious programmes designed to showcase scientific excellence and encourage young women to pursue a career in science.
A unique partnership to promote a pioneering programme :
Consecrating excellence through: the UNESCO-L’Oréal Awards, the founding act of the programme. These prestigious annual distinctions awarded to five leading women researchers, one per continent, identify exceptional women who are role models for generations to come.
Encouraging talent and promoting careers through:
- UNESCO-L’Oréal International Fellowships, presented each year to 15 young women scientists to help them enrich their experience in leading institutions around the world;
- L’Oréal National Fellowships, with the support of the UNESCO National Commissions, helping young women scientists at PhD level pursue research in their home country.
The For Women in Science programme now supports nearly 1,000 women in scientific research around the world.
