Unfortunately, cancer treatments have considerable side effects. This is why it is vital for cancer patients to receive treatment in the form of back-up care for the therapeutic treatment in just the same way the the areas of nutrition, functional readaptation, social assistance, and practical support. For the last ten years, a team from the Institut Gustave Roussy (IGR) has been studying the conditions for improving the quality of life for patients, and has joined forces with the L’Oréal Foundation to carry out a study on the usefulness of aesthetic care associated with curative treatment.
An initial qualitative phase of the study revealed a very high rate of satisfaction with patients and the medical nursing staff. Therapies that most often go hand in hand with physical alterations, which are sometimes severe, seem to become more humane through the use of aesthetic treatment that relieves, soothes and restores a positive self-image.
The results of the second, quantitative phase of the study carried out in 2009 will be known in 2011.
