R&D facts

 
  In 2001, L'OREAL allocated 432 millions euros (approximately 3% of consolidated sales),
 

2,743 scientists and support staff, including one fourth dedicated to basic research, are involved in discovering, investigating and developing new chemical entities, new formulations, new concepts and new technologies having in mind a unique motto : Creativity and Differentiation.

In 2001, the laboratories once again increased their innovating drive, filing 493 new patent applications. More than 3 000 new formulations have been developed and launched the same year.

R & D is mainly conducted in France but is reinforced by decentralized support laboratories in major markets (USA, Japan, ) to better adapt our products to local consumer demands and to local regulatory requirements.
