 HYPODERMAL DISORDERS: CELLULITE
Several factors are involved in cellulite, among them sex, weight, age, and certain genetic factors. Cellulite occurs mainly in women, and is characterised by areas of induration, which give the characteristic orange peel appearance to the skin. It is localised on the hips, thighs and buttocks. Abnormal capillary circulation and connective fibres are at the origin of this condition. Increased permeability of the blood vessels provokes oedema. The adipocytes are surrounded by collagen fibres, and because of the oedema these fibrils thickened, which disorganises the adipose tissue and creates nodules. These nodules apply pressure on the connective tissue. Blood flow and lymphatic circulation slow down, nutrients and oxygen supplies are diminished and toxic waste stagnated in the areas ending with collagen fibre sclerosis
