On October 2016, L’Oréal Japan in partnership with NPO Single Mothers Forum, which has over 35 years of experience, launched its Single Mother’s Career Support Program “Next step, Next future.” This support program falls under the SHARING BEAUTY WITH ALL initiative to offer career development training and access to employment for single mothers with low income.
According to the report of the Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, one in six children are living in poverty and more than 80% comes from single mother families. Through the initiative, L’Oréal Japan addresses the social issue to support single mother families by offering access to diverse employment opportunities that will lead to a sustainable career and life. As of this April, the program has been officially endorsed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
30 single mothers have completed the first term from October 2016 to February 2017. The 5-month program offers training in business, communications, IT, career counseling and special beauty tips by the brands, thus leading to employee engagement. After the completion of the program, single mothers will have access to employee opportunities at L’Oréal Japan as beauty advisors, sales, or clerical work through our partner ADECCO as full-time employees. The program has gained positive results — among the single mothers who applied for beauty advisors, 40% have been offered career opportunities as beauty advisors at L’Oréal Japan.
27 single mothers are now participating in the second term from April to August in 2017. Through the Single Mother’s Career Support Program “Next step, Next future,” L’Oréal Japan continues to be at the forefront with women empowerment not only for our employees, but also for women in need in the society.
