Launched in March 2017 by C40 Cities, the Women4Climate initiative aims to empower and mentor young women who develop projects addressing climate change in their home city. L’Oréal is the founding partner of this global mentoring program.
Women4Climate is an initiative led by C40 Cities, a global network connecting 90 of the world’s biggest cities in a collective effort to address climate change. It seeks to empower women to play a leading role in fighting climate change.
C40 Cities represents more than 650 million citizens and one quarter of the global economy. By adopting an inclusive approach to catalyzing climate action in cities, C40 aims to help accelerate progress towards fulfilling the Paris Agreement. Its Women4Climate mentoring program will support and empower future female leaders from multiple sectors including business, government, academia and civil society, as they develop local solutions to limit the impacts of climate change.
L’Oréal joined this global initiative as a founding partner. Women leaders from its own teams will play an active role in supporting future women climate leaders and strengthening their leadership capabilities. For example, L’Oréal’s Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, Alexandra Palt, is helping Paris-based entrepreneur Fanny Giansetto to develop Ecotable, a social enterprise creating a new certification system to rate and promote sustainable restaurants. Barbara Lavernos, L’Oréal’s Executive Vice-President of Operations, is mentoring two designers, Camille Chardayre and Amandine Langlois. This duo created Pierreplume, a decorative wall covering made of recycled fibers that is both attractive and improves acoustic quality.
