L’Oréal South Africa, based in Johannesburg, was established in the country in 1963.

We currently market and distribute a diverse portfolio of 29 brands—including Dark & Lovely, Maybelline, NYX Professional Makeup, Yves Saint Laurent, Kiehl’s, Lancôme, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, Vichy, Kérastase, and Mizani. These brands are managed across four strategic divisions: Consumer Products, Professional Products, L’Oréal Luxe, and Dermatological Beauty (formerly Active Cosmetics).

Innovating for the Infinite Diversity of African Beauty L’Oréal South Africa is home to one of our eight global Research & Innovation hubs. Our Sub-Saharan Africa R&I Centre is dedicated to the science of African beauty, developing tailor-made innovations that meet the unique needs and infinite diversity of consumers across the continent. By combining global expertise with local insights, we are creating the future of beauty for Africa.

Our team of over 530 employees is deeply committed to L’Oréal’s sustainability ambitions. Following our "Sharing Beauty with All" program, we transitioned into the next phase of our journey with the "L’Oréal for the Future" strategy.

Launched in 2020, this program continues our long-held commitment to transparent and impactful change. It reflects our core conviction that economic performance is inseparable from environmental and social responsibility. To this end, our CEO has made a firm commitment to ensuring that 100% of our products will have a positive societal or environmental impact by 2030.

At L’Oréal, we care for animal welfare and we do not test on animals. We are for beauty with no animal testing.

Since 1989, 14 years before the EU regulations required us to do so, we have not tested the safety of our products on animals.
Because we care about animal welfare, over 40 years ago, L’Oréal pioneered the development of human reconstructed skin that can be used to evaluate how cosmetic ingredients and products behave on human skin.
