Driving Water Circularity Across Our Factories

Water is a precious, shared resource, and preserving it is one of our key priorities. As part of our L’Oréal for the Future sustainability program, we have set a clear and ambitious goal: by 2030, 100% of the water used for industrial purposes in our factories will be recycled or reused.

To turn this vision into reality, our teams have reimagined our manufacturing processes through a circularity-based approach. We precisely categorize our water streams to optimize every drop:

  • Freshwater is strictly reserved where it is essential—such as raw materials for our high-quality cosmetic formulas (process water) or drinking water for our teams.
  • For industrial processes—such as cleaning equipment or producing steam—our factories rely on advanced on-site treatment systems (including ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis) to safely reuse and reinject water back into the industrial loop.

On our way to 2030: reaching 56% in 2025

We are making steady progress toward our global goal: in 2025, 56% of the water used for L’Oréal’s industrial purposes worldwide came from recycled or reused water.

While this objective applies to all our manufacturing sites globally, several of our 37 factories have already reached the 100% mark. By scaling up these on-site recycling technologies and adapting them to local challenges, we aim to continuously optimize our water efficiency and build a more circular, water-smart model across our entire global footprint.
