Making a Meaningful Mark Together

Every year, our teams pause their regular schedules to focus on a shared goal: giving back to the neighbourhoods and natural environments we cherish. Citizen Day represents a cornerstone of our culture at L'Oréal Groupe. It embodies the belief that collective energy can ignite lasting change. Last month, 600 of us across Australia and New Zealand stepped away from our desks, retail counters, and distribution centres to roll up our sleeves and support grassroots organisations.

Across 33 dedicated activities, our people joined forces with 19 non-profit partners. Whether preparing hearty meals for families facing hardship, planting native greenery along vital waterways, or clearing pollution from local beaches, your enthusiasm brought our shared values to life. Beauty is not just what we create; it is how we care for people, foster inclusion, and protect the world around us.

Nurturing Communities Across Australia and New Zealand

Real social change begins at the grassroots level. Across Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland, our teams partnered with social enterprises and charitable organisations that provide essential care every single day.

In our community kitchens, volunteers chopped fresh produce alongside teams from OzHarvest, FareShare, and Everybody Eats, ensuring vulnerable individuals and families received wholesome, freshly prepared meals. In Melbourne, volunteers worked with Our Village and Foodbank to pack essential hampers, toiletries, and children’s clothing for emergency relief networks.

We also championed dignity and personal empowerment. Collaborating with SisterWorks, Global Sisters, and Waverley Social Enterprises, our people supported initiatives that create employment pathways and economic independence for migrant women and people living with disabilities. Meanwhile, dedicated volunteers assisted Short Back & Sidewalks in providing free grooming services to individuals experiencing homelessness, restoring dignity and confidence through simple, human care.

In regional and youth advocacy programmes, teams stood alongside Gunawirra, Save the Children, Plan International, and New Zealand’s Kura Kai, preparing community packs and food distribution resources for school communities. Every conversation and packed parcel reminded us that community well-being thrives on everyday human connection.

Protecting Our Shared Natural Environments

Our dedication to the planet requires continuous care and restorative action. During Citizen Day, teams took to coastlines and urban corridors to preserve native ecosystems across the ANZ region.

Working with Take 3 For The Sea and the Port Phillip EcoCentre, volunteers gathered along Port Phillip Bay and Sydney beaches to remove litter and collect microplastics before they entered marine habitats. In Aotearoa New Zealand, our teams joined the Puhinui Regeneration Project, planting native trees and restoring local stream banks to revive essential biodiversity corridors.

Through our ongoing partnership with Sustainable Salons, volunteers also sorted salon materials and ponytail donations, turning hair waste into oil-spill booms and charitable wigs for individuals undergoing cancer care with organisations such as Cancer Support. These practical contributions reflect our commitment to circular economies and a healthier future.

"This was a truly rewarding day. The team at Puhinui were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and informative, their passion for the regeneration project was palpable. As a team we planted over 1,000 trees, it was amazing to be able to directly feel and see the difference we were making."
