What is Melasyl™?

Melasyl™ is an exclusive patented molecule developed to help regulate the appearance of localized pigmentary irregularities, such as age spots or post-imperfection marks. This multi-patented innovation works alongside other active ingredients to help achieve a more even and natural-looking skin tone.

Where does it come from?

It is a true scientific breakthrough!  

Melasyl™ is a molecule born from L’Oréal’s Advanced Research. Its development is the result of 18 years of research and numerous studies. This innovation has been presented at international dermatological congresses for its novel approach to managing skin pigmentation. It was named one of the TIME Best inventions in 2025.  

How does it work?

Developed after years of dedicated research, Melasyl™ represents a significant breakthrough in the science of skin pigmentation. It works in a uniquely targeted way to intercept the very earliest stages of melanin development, before unwanted pigmentation can take hold.

By targeting and deactivating the molecules responsible for triggering excessive pigmentation in the skin (including dopaquinone, DHI and DHICA*), Melasyl™ addresses the issue at its source. And crucially, it does so without permanently disrupting the skin's natural biological processes, working with the skin rather than against it.

Validated through rigorous laboratory research and clinical testing, Melasyl™ has been shown to deliver a more balanced and even complexion, help manage immediate darkening, visibly address the effects of sun-induced hyperpigmentation and support the skin’s natural resistance to localized dark spots.

For the best results and optimal efficacy, we recommend combining treatments containing Melasyl™ with daily sun protection to help limit the appearance of new pigmentary irregularities induced by UV rays.
