Scientific Innovation
Woven into our DNA since 1909
L'Oréal's history has been punctuated by a series of transformative scientific breakthroughs.
In 1935, we launched Ambre Solaire, the world's first tanning oil with a protective filter, setting a new standard for sun protection. The groundbreaking development of lab-grown reconstructed human skin in 1979 revolutionized safety testing by enabling ethical, non-animal alternatives. Pro-Xylane, a highly potent anti-ageing molecule, first launched in 2006, and derived from the principles of green science, exemplifies L'Oréal's unwavering commitment to both efficacy and sustainability.
More recently, after 20 years of research, we launched Melasyl, the first revolutionary molecule designed to regulate hyperpigmentation and dyschromia problems. This groundbreaking molecule improves skin tone uniformity, one of the disorders that affect a large proportion of the world’s population, regardless of their natural skin color.
