L’Oréal Beauty For a Better Life, Berdayakan 6,000 Lebih Perempuan Indonesia melalui Pelatihan Kecantikan
Since 2014, L'Oréal through the Beauty For a Better Life program has invited Indonesian women who have socioeconomic limitations to have the opportunity to have a better life through the world of beauty. The program provides free intensive training for certified hairdressers and cosmetics, and has helped 6,424 Indonesian women to gain access to the workforce and become more economically independent.
88% of program graduates have successfully built their careers in the field of cosmetology and hairdressing, such as working in a salon, opening their own salon, or becoming a MUA (cosmetologist in a call to the house)1. Two of the thousands of empowered women are named Ai Elis and Ni Putu Eva. BFBL not only makes them able to stand stronger on their own feet, but also shapes them into figures that strengthen other women's steps towards a better life.
Ai Elis, an alumnus of the 2021 hairdressing program in Cianjur, West Java, told her story, "Junior high school is the end of my education. Married young, I lived by selling basic necessities, then decided to separate from my husband. As a single mother, this is the first time I've fallen down. Being a student of the Beauty For A Better Life program was my first step to get back on my feet. I followed the training earnestly and enthusiastically, because I had hopes for the future of my children. The passion to bounce back has taken me so far, to be an independent and empowered mother. The salon business that I started is now not only a rice basket for my small family, but also a hope for my four employees."
Another inspiring story comes from Ni Putu Eva, an alumnus of the 2021 cosmetology program in Gianyar, Bali, who is now a professional makeup artist after almost desperately losing her job in tourism during the pandemic. "When the pandemic recovered and I wanted to go back to tourism, I couldn't get into that world anymore. That's where I feel really down. But I realized, life must go on and on. Through training from Beauty for Better Life, not only did I gain new friends and family, I gained new skills, confidence, and a new direction in life. Now I am back as a professional makeup artist, and can support my family," she said.
Junaid Murtaza, President Director, L'Oréal Indonesia, said, "We believe beauty has the power to help those who are vulnerable or struggling to feel and have a better life. In line with the name of our program, "Beauty For A Better Life", our mission is to empower Indonesians who are struggling in difficult circumstances through professional training in the field of makeup and hairdressing. By being equipped with expertise, we hope they can build confidence, become more empowered to support their families and the communities around them."
In the celebration of L'Oréal's 45th anniversary in Indonesia, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Airlangga Hartarto, said, "L'Oréal is one of the multinational companies that is 'Really Indonesian'. Various training programs are carried out to have a positive impact on the community. In its 45 years of operation in Indonesia, L'Oréal has shown that beauty is not something exclusive but inclusive."
Until now, the BFBL program is operated in 11 training centers in Indonesia, located in Cianjur, Pemalang, Lombok, Tanjung Balai, Bone, Bolmong, for hairdressing training programs, and Tangerang, Bali, Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Gresik for makeup training. In carrying out its program, L'Orel collaborates with three social community institutions, namely the Women's Head of Family Foundation (Pekka), the People's Empowerment Studies & Development Foundation (Spektra) and the East Java Lohjinawi Foundation.
Nani Zulminarni, Founder & Director of the PEKKA Foundation said, "The L'Oréal Beauty For a Better Life training truly shows how holistic beauty can foster confidence and hope, strengthen goals and open up opportunities for trainees and alumni. We have been working with L'Oréal for 11 years to help rural communities, especially women, to become more economically independent."
With a commitment to creating the beauty that drives Indonesia, L'Oréal has become an integral part of the beauty industry's development and socio-economic progress. L'Oreal has empowered nearly 1 million people across Indonesia through various social programs. This program is one of the manifestations of L'Oréal's commitment to community empowerment, and the provision of jobs during its 45-year journey in Indonesia.
