A Longstanding Partnership by L'Oréal & Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Seeding The Next Generation of Hairdressers
Since 2017, L'Oréal Indonesia, through its L'Oréal Hairducation program, has consistently partnered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia to strengthen the development of Vocational High Schools (SMK) specializing in Hairdressing to cultivate proficient hairdressers. To date, the program has trained 88 teachers from 46 vocational high schools (SMKN) and equipped 4,200 graduates who are ready to work in Indonesian hairdressing industry.

The L'Oréal Hairducation Programme is a fundamental for this mission. First launched by L'Oréal Professionnel and now including Matrix, we actively support government initiatives and 46 vocational schools nationwide developing thousands of students to be the future of the salon industry in Indonesia" said Freddie Banks, General Manager, L'Oréal Professional Products Division Indonesia. "Our cutting-edge curriculum equips schools with advanced technical skills and crucial soft skills demanded by todays evolving salons. Students gain invaluable, hands-on client experience, directly feeding salons with a stream of highly skilled and well-prepared stylists."
Ibu Wahyuni, a teacher at SMKN 6 Surabaya, highlighted the significant impact of the Hairducation program. "For nearly nine years, the L'Oréal Hairducation program has transformed our learning process. It all begin with the alignment of the learning curriculum, designed together with L'Oréal, to be comprehensive, relevant, and directly applicable to the professional world. We receive technical training, continuously updated with the latest hair trends, and provided with online learning platforms like L'Oréal Access, enabling us to prepare our students to be ready to work after graduation. And for us, teachers, witnessing so many of our alumni securing jobs and starting a career in the hairdressing industry is an immense source of pride.
Trisya, an alumna of SMKN 6 Surabaya, shared her inspiring journey. "Back in class, I gained so much from the program. What truly stood out was the learning experience from the L'Oréal educators, combined with an invaluable internship that opened my eyes to the potential of a career in the hairdressing world. For me, hairdressers have a skill that can't be replaced—like magicians, creating art every day, making people feel beautiful and happy. A career I'm truly proud of: a professional hairstylist.
The hairdressing industry in Indonesia holds immense potential with an estimated value reaching 11 trillion rupiah per year. Given this estimated value, there is an increasing need for ready to work talents for this industry. In fact, there are 102,000 salons spread across the nation, providing employment opportunities for more than 305,000 people.
The L'Oreal Hairducation program connects vocational high school graduates with employment opportunities in the industry. Arrie Harry, owner of Arie & Harry Salon explained, "The need for skilled talent in this industry in vast driven by an ever-growing public enthusiasm for beauty. Hairducation graduates have become a valuable talent pool. I can clearly see how the curriculum strongly emphasizes practical, work-ready skills."
Stephanie Martina, owner of Glam Hair Culture stated, "The hairdressing industry is very dynamic; trends and new techniques evolve rapidly. We need talent who can grow and develop quickly. As a small business owner, I've personally felt the impact of the L'Oréal Hairducation program. I've been able to find young, skilled professionals who are ready to work, technically proficient, and having the skills that salons need."
The impact of the Hairducation program is evident from the results of a survey conducted by an independent institutions, which shows: 97% of graduates are satisfied with the overall learning program, and 86% stated that the program increased their self-confidence. A total of 61% of L'Oréal Hairducation graduates are now pursuing their careers in the hairdressing industry, either by opening their own salons, working in salons, or becoming freelance hairstylists.
