L'Oréal Groupe reaffirms its long-standing commitment to advancing science without animal testing at the WC13 Congress
At L’Oréal, we believe that scientific and regulatory advancement of non-animal methods is only possible through multidisciplinary cooperation. Our engagements focus on scientific development to create new non-animal methods, international collaboration, and educational programs to further encourage their acceptance by regulatory authorities.
That is why we actively participate in scientific congresses like WC13 to share our knowledge and expertise with the scientific community and broaden the use of non-animal methods among all stakeholders.
This week (August 31st - September 4th, Brazil), L'Oréal R&I teams attended the 13th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences (WC13) to showcase our commitment by sharing latest science on non-animal testing methods.
In addition to presenting our latest advances in the development of non-animal testing methods through 8 posters, 7 symposium talks, 7 sessions chaired by L’Oréal, and 1 training workshop, we also offered – for the first time - exhibition space to 5 innovative startups and rewarded 8 early-stage researchers with the most promising projects in the field of NAMs.
What is the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences also called ‘WC’?

This Congress is considered as one of the most important scientific meetings for the promotion and development of non-animal testing methods. WC brings together, every two years, more than 800 scientists from different industries, regulatory authorities, NGOs, academia from all around the world.
L’Oréal R&I has been a major sponsor of this congress since 2005. As an industry leader, it’s our duty to support and participate in the WC congress to promote science for Cosmetics with no animal testing.

Episkin Academy Training
Sharing scientific excellence is the best way to advocate for the use of non-animal testing methods. That’s why we have organized, once again, the Episkin Academy Training to share our latest OECD validated method, developed under the leadership of L’Oréal. At WC13, approximately 35 individuals, including professionals from small companies, testing companies and academia received this valuable training.
L’Oréal Innovative Village for Startups
For the first time at a WC congress, L'Oréal is providing an exclusive exhibition space, the L'Oréal Innovation Village, to five pioneering startups. This initiative aims to encourage multidisciplinary collaboration between science and industry, accelerating global recognition and adoption of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). These start-ups are: Bispora (Brazil), BioTiers (Brazil), ExAdEx Innov (France), AI4Cosmetics (Netherlands), Invitrolize (Luxembourg).

Support for the New Generation of Researchers
The L'Oréal Group continues its engagement by generously sponsoring 8 Travel Grants for early-career researchers with the most promising projects in the field of NAMs. Five winners were from South America (3 from Brazil and 2 from Argentina), one from North America, one from Asia, and one from Europe.
