Climate Week NYC 2021: Getting It Done
Climate Week NYC, taking place September 20-26, returns for 2021 with a focus on fulfilling and increasing commitments made by businesses, governments, and organizations. It is the time and place where the world gathers to showcase leading climate action and discuss how to do more, fast.
Hosted annually by international non-profit the Climate Group in conjunction with the United Nations, and in partnership with the COP26 and the City of New York, Climate Week NYC is a global opportunity to come together to accelerate climate action and assess progress ahead of COP26.
How We Fight Climate Change
For more than 20 years, we have worked to reduce the CO2 emissions linked to our industrial activity. To achieve this, we improved energy efficiency across all our facilities (buildings, equipment, etc.), increased the use of local renewable energy wherever possible and achieved the targets defined for the sites without carbon offsetting projects.
We elaborated our renewable energy strategy according to the local possibilities offered by the industrial sites in the various countries where we operate: for most of our carbon reduction projects, we used locally produced renewable energy, or directly produced our own renewable energy (biomass, biomethanisation, solar panels, etc.).
L'Oréal USA Achieves Carbon Neutrality Across All U.S. Sites
In advance of Climate Week NYC, L'Oreal USA - the largest subsidiary of the world's leading beauty company - met a critical milestone of it's 'L'Oreal for the Future' sustainability commitment by reaching carbon neutrality for scopes 1 and 2 emissions for all 25 US sites, across 12 states, including its manufacturing and distribution facilities, administrative sites, and research and innovation sites.

L'Oréal Recognized For Its Leadership In Sustainability By The UN Global Compact
It is a mission that translates to many facets of our global business, but most crucial of them all is our ability to meaningfully contribute to climate solutions.
Over the last decade we have completely transformed our company and we are accelerating our efforts to ensure that we operate within the planetary boundaries as determined by environmental scientists, and by 2025 we will achieve 100% carbon neutrality at all our sites around the globe.
Through our sustainability transformation, L’Oréal for the Future, we are harnessing the power of beauty to do our part—and to bring along our partners, suppliers, and 1.5 billion consumers in doing so.
We are proud to be the Opening Ceremony Sponsor of Climate Week NYC 2021 and to work with the global community to address the climate crisis we collectively face.

L'Oreal for the Future, our sustainability commitments for 2030
Launched in June 2020 as the next phase of the global beauty leader’s sustainability ambition, L'Oréal for the Future represents a radical transformation of the company’s global business that is comprised of ambitious goals for 2030 and 2050 - encompassing every footprint of its products and accounting for the company’s own impact and that of its 1.5 billion consumers as well.
The company has set long-term goals to reduce its entire inventory of greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) by 25% by 2030, in absolute terms compared to 2016, and by 2050 aims to further reduce emissions and become a net zero company. These goals were set in accordance with the Science Based Targets, which aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C, according to climate scientist recommendations, as set by the Paris Agreement. L'Oréal’s goals are guided by the concept of Planetary Boundaries, which projects the limits humanity can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come.
L'Oréal has been recognized as the only company in the world to have obtained, for the fifth year in a row, a Triple ‘A’ rating from the CDP on all three major issues: protecting the climate, managing water sustainably and the fight against deforestation. The company is the only one out of more than 9,000 companies worldwide to receive this designation.
