L'Oréal Is Proud To Support The LGBTI Community
With the ‘Pride Month’, L’Oréal has underlined its commitment to inclusivity for people from the LGBTI community. Thanks to the ‘March for Me’ initiative, any employee could be represented at the World Pride event in New York on June 30, if they wish to be.
Starting in 2018, L’Oréal was one of the first companies to officially support the Standards of Conduct introduced by by the United Nations to combat the discrimination faced by the LGBTI community. L’Oréal has long been committed to human rights, diversity & Inclusion and is not satisfied with simply waving the rainbow flag.
At a local level, the Group supports numerous practical projects that aim to raise awareness among employees and to promote equality at the workplace. One aspect of this long-term strategy is gender balance – with a particular focus on providing an inclusive work environment.
L’Oréal USA, a model employer for equality
In the 2018 Corporate Equality Index produced by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, L’Oréal earned the maximum score of 100 – and the title of Best Employer for LGBTI equality. In two years, more than 140 people have joined the OUT@L’Oréal employee network. This internal think-tank came up with the innovative idea this year of March for me; a digital campaign that provided a way of representing all the Group’s employees who wanted to support World Pride, but who could not make it to New York on June. In total, nearly 860 L’Oréal employees took part in the march.
Sharing best practices for inclusivity at L’Oréal Mexico
In Mexico, L’Oréal has created an inclusive workplace for LGBTI employees with the FREE TO BE initiative. This network of employees from the LGBTI community encourages the sharing of best practices within the Group subsidiary. L’Oréal Mexico is also part of the PRIDE CONNEXION, a group of companies that are fighting discrimination against LGBTI people. In addition, L’Oréal employees also took part in the Pride March in Mexico City in 2018.
L’Oréal France raises employee awareness of the fight against discrimination
On May 17, 2019, L’Oréal France observed the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. Employees were engaged in a day of conferences about the fight against discrimination and homophobia. Awareness of these issues was also raised through activities at the L’Oréal France campus.
UK and Ireland highlight employees in transition
Launched in 2017, the OUT@L’Oréal initiative has made L’Oréal an employer of choice for the LGBTI community in the UK and Ireland. An active network of employees was formed, while an audit of internal policies was carried out to meet the needs of the LGBTI community. In 2019, the subsidiary launched a policy to ensure there is comprehensive support and understanding for employees wishing to transition.
