L'Oréal India announces expansion of the “Green Pathways” Initiative in Yavatmal, Maharashtra

The ecological restoration project aims to provide water security to 3,000 farmers in the region

June 19, Maharashtra, India: L’Oréal India has announced the expansion of its “Green Pathways” initiative in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district. The Green Pathways project focuses on ecological restoration in the drought-prone and water-scarce Yavatmal district.

In partnership with Foundation For Ecological Security (FES), since 2021, L’Oréal India has helped restore 2,500 hectares of degraded land in the Ghatanji block of Yavatmal, enhancing water storage capacity in the region by 150 million liters, benefiting over 1,800 vulnerable farmers families with a 20% increase in income.

L’Oréal India now commits to doubling its support in the region by restoring an additional 5,000 hectares of land by 2026, which will enhance water storage capacity by 300 million liters, benefiting another 3,000 farmer families across 85 villages.

The initiative also recognizes the crucial role women play in agriculture and will empower close to 500 women in the region.

L’Oréal India employees have also played an integral role in the transformation of Yavatmal. During the 2024 Mumbai Marathon, 240 employees ran in support of farmers in Yavatmal and together they provided micro-irrigation sprinklers to 156 families of Kati in Digras block. These sprinklers will help the farmers save 2 million liters of water annually, creating a lasting impact on their lives and livelihoods.

Aseem Kaushik, Managing Director - L’Oréal India, says, "Our commitment to land restoration and driving positive social change in Yavatmal is stronger than ever. Having personally met the farmer community in the region, it’s humbling to play a small part in ensuring their secure livelihoods. At L’Oréal we have a conviction to be part of the solution to the challenges that the world is facing. We will continue to drive change by transforming our business activities to address the critical environmental and social challenges in the country.”

Subrata Kumar Singh, Executive Director, Foundation for Ecological Restoration, said, "Over the past three years, through our partnership with L'Oréal India, we've firsthand seen the significant progress made in strengthening water security and improving the governance of natural resources along the Khuni river catchment. We're thrilled to be expanding this vital work to additional communities, furthering our collective commitment to a more sustainable future in Yavatmal.”

L'Oréal India’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives revolve around three pillars: empowerment environment, and education. The different projects undertaken in India aim to uplift marginalized communities, empower women, and foster sustainable development.

Globally, the L'Oréal for the Future program, launched in 2020, embodies the Group's ambition in terms of sustainability and is built around three major strategic aspects: transforming our business activities to reduce the impact on climate, water, biodiversity and resources; empowering its business ecosystem; helping address the most pressing environmental and social challenges the world is facing. L'Oréal acts by supporting highly vulnerable women and communities who are most exposed to climate disasters, and by investing in the regeneration of nature and the development of the circular economy.
